Food Catering Ideas For Planned Events
I am planning a major community event, and I have never done this before. But, I am enjoying it very much, and I hope to plan more events in the future. I was wondering what type of food catering I was going to provide, so I began to look at different options.
For this event, anything could really work, although I wanted a variety for sure. I thought about doing a barbecue. I knew someone that could make a mean brisket, and of course then you have hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade barbecue sauce and all kinds of other goodies. Everyone loves a BBQ for an event right?
My next train of thought was whether I actually wanted to do the food catering myself with a group of people or hire a food catering service that would put together all the food items I wanted.
Aside from the barbecue idea, I thought about doing a seafood themed catering for the event, which could include fish, shrimp, crab, lobster and other such platters. But, this would be more expensive, and while it includes many different choices, some people just don’t like seafood.
Then, I thought what about Mexican food. There could be enchiladas, tamales, tacos, burritos, beans, rice and all kinds of yummy dishes. I also thought about incorporating different categories altogether, such as having one large table set up for Mexican food, another table set up for Chinese food, etc. All of which make great finger food buffets.
I knew whatever I did, there needed to be a sweets table, and I was working with a local cupcake company on that already. They were going to provide all kinds of special treats and set up the table themselves. It was good publicity for them too, since it’s a new business.
That is when it dawned on me. I wanted to make it a home-cooking themed event. We’re talking corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, country fried steaks, shrimp, biscuits, gravy, roast beef, and much much more. I figured throwing in some turkey and dressing would even be a nice touch.
The home cooked meal option gave me much more to work with, but I definitely didn’t plan on throwing all of that together myself. So, I contacted a local company, and I talked to them about the idea. They said they could handle it no problem. After getting all the details and going over dishes with me, they said they would have everything ready to go on time.
